Can You Remove Nudes from the Internet?

07-23-2025

Here at NCMEC, searches like these bring people to our site every day:

“How do I remove naked pictures online?”

“How do I get my pictures removed if they were posted without permission?”

“My nudes leaked, how do I stop the spread?”

We get it. It’s scary to find out that someone has shared your private images online. You might feel embarrassed, scared or unsure of what to do next. But here’s the most important thing we want you to know:

We’re here to help.

At NCMEC, we created a free, anonymous tool called Take It Down to help people under 18 get sexually explicit images and videos of themselves removed from the internet. Through this platform, you can create a unique digital fingerprint of your image—without ever uploading the image itself—and submit it to participating platforms so they can block or remove the content if it’s uploaded.

This tool empowers you to take control because whether you sent the image willingly to someone you trusted or it was taken without your knowledge or consent, you still have the right to have that image taken down.

In addition to submitting a report to Take It Down, you should also report to NCMEC’s CyberTipline. When you report via NCMEC’s CyberTipline, you have the option to get connected to a real person who can support you through this process. Our analysts can keep you updated on your takedown request and refer you to resources like counseling, legal guidance, peer support and other professional services. No one should have to navigate this kind of trauma alone, and we’re here to help you move forward.

But what if you sent an image and now, someone is threatening you?

If you’re experiencing sextortion and someone is blackmailing you with a nude image, whether it’s for money, more pictures or anything else, report it immediately. Contact law enforcement, file a CyberTipline report and get support by calling NCMEC’s call center at 1-800-THE-LOST.

No one chooses to be in this situation, but you can choose what happens next. Whether you’re trying to stop the spread of an image or get help for ongoing threats, NCMEC is here for you. You’re not alone, and you’re not powerless. Use the tools, ask for support and know that there is a path forward.

Together, we can take it down—and help you take back control.
